Broome Manor Lane used to be a dog leg shape. The two cottages half way down Broome Manor Lane, shown on the map, are still in position and are the only two properties in the lane that are not square with the road. Now you can see why. (A picture of these cottages can be seen under 'Pictures of Broome Manor via Old Town Station to Rushey Platt 2002'.) The writing on the plan on the road diversion states 'bridge over railway or level crossing and gatekeepers lodge'. We know that a gatekeepers cottage on the corner was built.
