Two survivors from Marlborough.

The cast iron finial was from the top of the signal that stood by bridge No. 50 (over the Salisbury Road), salvaged intact when the post was felled. My dear mother had always wanted a rockery and following closure and demolition, I went about constructing one using stone liberated from the retaining wall behind the down platform. The phrase 'a little carried away' summed up my efforts as it ended up about ten times the size she had envisaged. My suggestion that the signal finial would make a nice feature on her rockery did not go down too well and was robustly declined! Consequently, the finial sat dumped under the hedge until rediscovery, and rescue, following the demolition of Station House.

The timber block was the end of a floor joist of Station House, again discovered after demolition and kept by my father because it was stamped MSWJR.
