31613 arrives Marlborough with the 14.50 Andover Junction - Swindon Town on a wet Saturday, 26th November 1960. This service was due Marlborough at 15.42 and would depart 15.49 after crossing the 13.52 Cheltenham - Southampton service. This time on a Saturday afternoon there would be a third passenger train at Marlborough. The loco and two coaches would be stabled on the headshunt at the Swindon end of the station waiting to form the 16.03 to Savernake Low Level. 31613 would return to Andover Junction with the 16.52 from Swindon Town. Station House on the right - a very fetching shade of bitumen black - was our home from 1958, when my father took up the post of Station Master, replacing Mr Barnby, who had transferred to Witney. It remained the family home until 1978. The metal finial from the top of the signal on the left survives to this day. Photograph taken by Edwin Wilmshurst.
